A WONDERLAND IN SILK
Carpets from the town of Ghom
The holy town of Ghom is situated 140 kilometers to the south of Tehran. Carpets from this town boast an extraordinary range of designs, such as interlaced floral displays, garden scenes and representations of flowers, animals and rich patterns. These very fine carpets use Persian knots, or 'farsbaf' and count 600 000 to over 1.000.000 knots/m_. The Kork wool that is used produces a supple and richly colourful velvet. Other examples are created using natural silk or silk and wool blends. These carpets are greatly admired for their elegance, the variety of their design and a perfect finish.
